Elections Canada has published its report to change federal riding boundaries following the 2020 census; Whereas Bradford West Gwillimbury is recommended to join a new electoral district to account for our region’s population growth; Whereas that new riding boundary generally consists of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the Town of New Tecumseth, the Town of East Gwillimbury, and the Holland Marsh portion of King Township north of Highway 9; Whereas Bradford West Gwillimbury would be the largest municipality in the new riding with Bradford the largest urban centre therein; Whereas the current proposal is to name the new riding ‘New Tecumseh—Gwillimbury’, which fails to mention Bradford or to provide a thorough description of the riding’s composition; Therefore, the Council of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury respectfully advises the Federal Electoral District Redistribution Commission that: Council is generally in agreement with the logic of the new boundaries, particularly as they keep the three municipalities entirely within one riding, along with the entire Holland Marsh community of interest; Council requests that an alternate and more fitting name be considered, such as retaining the accurate description exemplified in the current name of ‘York—Simcoe’ or by considering alternative names that more fully reflect the new riding such as ‘Bradford—Gwillimbury—New Tecumseth’; and That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Member of Parliament for York—Simcoe, th
