Whereas on February 12, 2023, we lost a great friend to the Bradford West Gwillimbury sports community; and Whereas Paul Dossey is fondly remembered for his decades of leadership of the Bradford Minor Hockey Association, through which his positive impact on the lives of generations of local hockey players will be felt for many years to come; and Whereas through his determination to ensure a bright future for youth hockey, Paul was instrumental in the successful formation of the new South Simcoe Minor Hockey Association; and Whereas Paul was awarded the town’s Lifetime Sports Builder Award in 2020 and will be celebrated annually with the SSMHA Paul Dossey Memorial Tournament; and Whereas thanks to the volunteer efforts of community-builders like Paul Dossey, our town is a better place to live, work and play. Now therefore, the Council of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury hereby resolves: That in recognition of his tireless efforts to promote and grow youth sports, Council expresses its great appreciation to Paul Dossey’s family, friends and the local minor hockey community by renaming the Leisure Centre “blue” ice pad as the “Paul Dossey Rink”.
